Bespoke interior
Black and white apartment
Architects have transformed a 66 sq. m. apartment in an old brick house into a refined and premium living space for a young hedonist. The load—bearing wall divides the apartment into 2 parts, the spaces on the sides of the wall are redeveloped - on the right there is a kitchen combined with a living room, on the left there is a private area with a bedroom, a bathroom, an office and a chillout area. The composition of the right part is built around the built-in cabinet of the island layout, which the authors called “The BOX". On the hallway side there is a wardrobe for outerwear, on the kitchen side there are 2 showcases with shelves for dishes, soft lighting and a built–in oven between them.
In the fashion world, there is a concept of BESPOKE — this is a custom-made suit for a client; the interior of this apartment was created by the authors on the same principle. All the built-in furniture in the apartment, including the kitchen, is made to order according to sketches and drawings by AMMG Architects. The walls are finished with panels, panels, the rhythm, and color of which is repeated in the furniture; this allowed us to achieve an extraordinary uniformity and integrity of a small space. "We faced a difficult task," recalls Daria, one of the authors of the project, "to integrate air conditioning systems, audio multiroom elements and a smart home system with a server room into a space with ceilings only 2.5 meters high. But we managed it." Some of the electronics had to be placed in furniture elements, which were developed jointly with engineers.
The composition of the kitchen is built around the island, above it is a glass holder with a backlight. The line of the kitchen opposite the island is symmetrical and forms a black, graphic frame around the tile panel. The floors are marble, contrasting – black and white stone should not have streaks that would violate the strictness of the drawing. The heart of the living room is a library that unites the interests of the owners — good music, art, movies, and books. In the private part, the bedroom can be accessed both through the study and the bathroom.
The furniture in the study is located along opposite walls and is thought out for maximum comfort; even the drawers inside are decorated with tactile pleasant alcantara. The stitching of the ergonomic chair evokes associations with the salon of a luxury car. When designing the bedroom, it was important to place the maximum number of storage places: deep drawers under the bed, small bookshelves were placed around the perimeter of the headboard, with a pattern and color reminiscent of bitter chocolate.
The apartment has thought out not only the smallest details, but also lighting scenarios: overhead lamps for general illumination, suspensions for accent light, table lamps and furniture lighting.
Refined details are added by Buster&Punch accessories; the original design relates to the history of the brand, which began in a garage in east London: the owner created custom motorcycles, the aesthetics of which formed the basis to produce craft designer items.
