Diagonal apartment
For the architectural workshop of AMMG Architects, this project is a good opportunity to apply one of their favorite techniques. Clearly build a space and fill it with illusions that not only enrich the interior, but also add additional meaning to it. The basis of the planning solution is a diagonal axis leading from the hall to the living room, arranged in a semicircular bay window. The axis is built in such a way as to “catch” the light pouring from five windows and carry it through the entire apartment, to the doors of the master bedroom located at the opposite end of the corridor. This technique is supported by mirrors, which on slightly broken forms of the walls give numerous re-reflections, polished marble on the floor and large-format granite on the walls.
The materials are selected according to the principle of contrast of textures and sensations: cold marble and warm velvet, which is upholstered on the sofa in the living room; glass tabletop and matte wooden panels in the dining room; plaster with suede effect and smooth stainless steel. The customers set the workshop the task of turning a three—room apartment into a five-room apartment - with three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, study, living room, kitchen, and a full set of utility rooms. Built-in solutions and furniture made at the carpentry production according to the sketches of architects helped to fulfill all the wishes. Wall panels, including a complex radius shape, a kitchen made of veneer of the same texture and with the same complex bend, furniture in the bedroom — everything is designed considering the optimal organization of space. The veneered wall in the dining room is a load—bearing one; the architects made it the center of a furniture composition, in which a heating system is hidden, a storage system and a TV are built in.
A light shelving in the living room is a full—fledged wardrobe. The back wall of the carpentry production was first covered with plaster, and only then shelves were added. In the study, against the background of a wall covered with silver-gray decorative plaster, a handmade panel in a silver–plated frame stands out - the customer's favorite painting organically fits into the new interior. An American-style leather sofa adds rigor.
The guest bathroom is more like a mirror maze. There was not enough space for it – and the designers expanded the cramped room with the help of multiple re-reflections. Bright light gives the bathroom a theatrical and club mood. — the magical effect is enhanced by a mosaic of tiny tesserae of natural aluminum, a designer sink-bowl, and a deliberately spectacular neoclassical chandelier.
