RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX IN ENGLISH STYLE
On an area of more than 1 hectare, the architects of the AMMG studio designed a city block, completely transforming the existing landscape. For the design, a plot was provided on which a morally outdated factory building was mainly located, during the reconstruction of which it was necessary to develop a complete redevelopment project – part of the buildings was subject to renovation, and the architects located new residential buildings on the area free from development.
Complex work required active work with the master plan: the authors not only thought through the logistics of movement through the territory, but also developed a full-fledged landscape project, having thought through pedestrian paths, car traffic, landscaping, and lighting.
"When we first found ourselves with the customer on the site," recalls Vadim, one of the authors of the project, "it immediately became clear to us that it was necessary to preserve the special atmosphere of the place. Despite the depressing condition of the buildings, many of which were in disrepair, the brick factory buildings and large window openings with bindings reminded us of London factories of the Victorian era." The architects offered the customer to support the English aesthetics during the renovation, and he immediately accepted the idea, being not indifferent to the chosen style himself. Nevertheless, to create a truly English atmosphere, it was not enough just to restore the facades, which lacked not only quality, but also details – the authors scrupulously approached the task. A single design code was created for the entire complex, based on a combination of red-brown hand-molded bricks, a characteristic white decor expressed in active cornices, rustics on the corners of buildings, keystones above windows and front entrances with porticos and columns. According to the developed master plan, the complex has 8 buildings of variable number of stories – they were divided according to the functional principle, placing apartments, a mini-hotel, an office block, and a city villa inside, which became the core of the composition.
Townhouses were organized in two-story buildings, on the first floors of which, according to the English tradition, having broken up private mini gardens, the city villa was given 2 plots from the north and south sides at once. In the lower part of the territory, the architects designed a public park, combining the principles of regular and landscape gardens in it; in the opposite part there was also a place for a small walking and green area. The geology of the site did not allow for underground parking, so the parking lots are located inside the courtyard – nevertheless, the places for them are selected so as not to interfere with residents walking and enjoying the landscape. Despite the uniform style and principles of decor, it cannot be said that the complex is visually monotonous. Some of the buildings at the 1st floor level are decorated with a white belt with active rust, while others have brickwork reaching the basement. The various window modules, the details of the glazing, the abundance of elegant decor and authentic details, up to the door handles, create a complex and at the same time visually unified image, immersing residents in a whole and harmonious visual environment. The architects were equally attentive to the perception of the night – thoughtful illumination of the territory and buildings emphasizes the elegance of architecture and landscape and creates a sense of security and comfort at every point of the site.
