RIGA RESIDENCE
For the construction of a large-scale residence, the customer purchased a plot located on the first line of the lake. Stunning views of the water, active terrain and a real pine forest required an equally impressive architectural statement. The scale of the building and at the same time refined, elegant proportions are read already upon arrival at the site; the long road from the entrance to the main entrance allows the architecture to open to the visitor, revealing new facets and details as it approaches.
The authors used their favorite techniques – panoramic windows, dynamic spatial composition, contrasting and natural materials. The accent of the composition was a stained-glass window with a height of 8 meters, through which a view of the lake opens from the entrance to the house, from which you can go to the Baltic Sea by boat.
The main entrance from the side of the forest is decorated grandly. To the right of the canopy, the courtyard opens towards the forest; in the center of the courtyard, in the middle of a decorative pond, there is a kinetic sculpture. The floor of the reservoir is made of impact-resistant glass and at the same time is a window for the penetration of natural light into the basement. The visual effect is enhanced by a waterfall flowing down the wall to the right of the sculpture. In the right part of the house, a terrace was arranged, inside which a decorative garden was laid out. The core of the garden is a tree with a spreading crown, around which there is a pond bordered by bamboo shoots and flower beds. At the bottom of the garden is a recreation area, which the authors have sunk into the floor and equipped with built-in furniture; a complex network of paths and paths made of marble, wood and pebbles is laid through the garden. From the garden you can directly access the home SPA with panoramic windows, so that the lake can also be seen from the garden. The layout and structure of the building, the location of the windows during the design were checked in a computer model — it was extremely important that the sun's rays penetrate every room, even on the north side. From the lake side at night, the villa evokes associations with a luxurious modern yacht – the proportions are stretched horizontally, creating terraces that can be called decks. On the upper AMMG Architects created two outdoor lounges for sunbathing, in the 1st floor level they divided the space. A boat garage is often built into the water level on the yacht – this residence is equipped with a spacious parking for 7 cars; however, a separate dry dock is provided for the boat.
The facades are decorated with large-format porcelain stoneware, black mirrored glass, dark gray clinker bricks and wooden slats tinted in the color of bitter chocolate with a complex relief treatment.
The windows are Swiss and German double–glazed windows made of aluminum profile (SKY-FRAME, SCHUECO).
Fences – glass.
Decorative accents are elements of black metal, natural stone of various breeds and shades.
The most incredible view, thanks to the relief, opens from the private terrace at the kitchen — here the architects only emphasized the boundless water surface with the reflection of the sky in the pond, added a basalt path leading to a bench for contemplating the sunset. The windows on the western and eastern facades are arranged to exclude the visibility of the interiors of the house from the surrounding buildings; decorative slats framing the garden and terrace serve the same purpose.
