RIVERS VILLAGE
Located in a private village among a pine forest, the one-story house is designed for a married couple. The customers are elderly people, and therefore we proposed to place the entire set of premises at the level of one floor. The compact area allocated for development was supposed to accommodate the necessary set of rooms for a comfortable life: a spacious kitchen combined with a living room, a master bedroom block, a set of technical rooms and 2 offices for work and hobbies of the owners. The main idea of the layout was the division of the house along the central axis into 2 parts – the living room was located on the right, the bedroom – in the left wing of the building. This axis has become the functional, semantic, and compositional center of architecture: the lapidary rectangular volume of the house is cut in two so that this division is read from the outside and from the inside. To enhance the visual effect, a cascade of anti-aircraft lanterns is provided in the roof; thus, we achieved the penetration of natural light deep into the house, emphasized its lightness, transparency and gave the interior individuality by simple means.
A small house for a married couple
The flat roof, bordered by a brutal steel channel, hangs over the street and courtyard facades, forming a carport from the street side and a cozy terrace from the side of the plot. It develops and complicates simple geometry, gives the building plastic, and stretches the house in width, forming elegant proportions. The idea of contrast can be traced in many techniques that we used in the project: the windows on 3 sides are narrow and arranged in such a way as to optimally arrange the furniture in the interiors; on the opposite side of the plot, the facade is as open as possible and is, in fact, an all-glass wall. However, of course, the glass is not solid – in summer, panoramic windows can be easily moved, and combine the exterior with the interior, allowing owners to arrange summer dinners, easily moving from the house to the terrace. The contrast can also be traced in the facade finishing materials – black metal is adjacent to smooth granite of a milky hue, and to give the building a warmer, country look, we used crushed stone of beige tones on the outriggers.
Accents in details made of wooden slats, the framing of the outdoor fireplace and thoughtful lighting complete the appearance of the house, make it lively, plastic, and tactile up close.
Even at the stage of the preliminary design, we carefully thought over the future interior – for example, a narrow ribbon of windows in the kitchen replaces the traditional decoration between the lower and upper cabinets, and panoramic windows in the bathroom and bedroom are oriented so that the owners are hidden from the eyes of neighbors. On the terrace we designed an outdoor fireplace, and to the right we placed a private garden, which can be admired from all the main rooms. But the main effect in the interior is undoubtedly the windows in the roof – through them you can see the tops of pine trees from the living room, which, combined with the panorama around, gives an amazing sense of unity with nature
