THE BEIGE AND BRASS APARTMENT
Elegance in beige tones: modern design with brass accents
The architects of the AMMG studio designed an apartment on one of the upper floors of a modern skyscraper in Moscow City. Urban landscapes have become the backdrop for a warm interior in a laconic modern style.
The apartment was originally purchased by customers for rent. Therefore, they asked the authors of the project to design it in a fairly universal style, without any personalized techniques. The designers offered two options: a more brutal "male", almost black and white, and a softer, warmer "female". The owners stayed on the second option, and, unsurprisingly, after the apartment was ready, a young girl rented it. "The work was based on trust: after agreeing on the general concept, customers were offered a complete organization of the process and then they practically didn't take part in it," recalls Vadim Martynov. "During the entire construction period, we held only 3-4 meetings at which we showed samples of key materials, the rest of the decisions were made independently."
The aesthetics of soft minimalism with characteristic geometry and strict plasticity are softened here by decorative techniques, selected materials, textures, fine details. "We tried to create a modern interior that corresponds to the level of the building and location, visually comfortable, cozy, not overloaded with active decor." The structure of the premises proposed by the developer was not bad: it implied a large kitchen-living-dining room, a bedroom, two bathrooms and a utility room. Therefore, the designers of the studio didn't change the layout, but focused on finishing, choosing and arranging furniture, working with light. The criterion for the selection of materials were warm shades, the work was based on semitones.
The interior is designed with broad strokes: it uses plain textile wallpaper with a thin, barely noticeable texture, large—format porcelain stoneware, fabric and alcantara panels with brass, mirrors - in the right places they expand the space of the premises. Most of the pieces of furniture were identified at the visualization stage and were carefully selected for each other. For example, the leather headboard of the bed is ideally combined with the leather-trimmed facades of bedside tables, and the color of the cabinet, made according to an individual project, also fits in tone with them. The advantage in choosing furniture was given to proven Italian and Spanish brands. Proportions, scale, and a certain elegant, non-screaming restraint were important. All built-in furniture is made according to the sketches of the authors of the project at the carpentry production.
The use of brass inserts became an inspiring accent in the decor: the interaction of warm metal with textile panels, matte furniture facades, natural oak board demonstrates restrained luxury and noble taste.
